A Chip Off the Old Block

Series: A Chip Off the Old Block
Eps: 21
Broadcast line: TVB
Main Leads: Sunny Chan, Myolie Wu, Ron Ng, Shirley Yeung
Producer: Poon Ka Tak

Thoughts:

Finally got a chance to finish this series. Yes I'm behind and still need to catch up. I wasn't planning to watch this but then I was like why not. So I gave it a try and its okay. The only thing that interest me when I read the synopsis was that Myolie is Ron's mother and Sunny as Ron's father. That was the only thing interest me. I gave the series a try since I haven't seen Ron ever since E.U and that was a while. The series plot line is not constant. It increase and decrease, some scenes are interesting and some scene are boring. But the series is still watchable.

Characters.. (Only four characters was chosen)

So Fung Nei - Played by Myolie Wu. This is an refreshing character in all Myolie's series I saw. A new fresh character and a side that I never saw Myolie in. Her character is nicely portrayed and written. Myolie portrayed her character well as an Swindler. At first we all thought that Myolie's character is all about the money. That what TVB want you to think, but as the series progresses, we the audience found out that she became a swindler because of her childhood and her mother. Fung Nei is an filial daughter to her mom, she tried many ways to get the money to save her sister and her mother from her father. Her father didn't treat her mother, her sister and herself well cause they were girls. At first I find her character weird and annoying but I grew to love her character. Her character has a comedy side and I think that is where all the comedy comes in, well of course other characters are funny too. But Myolie's skill for comedy is really funny. She crack me up all the time and I really love her costume in here xD. From her hair to her clothes!! Very fashionable. Myolie did a great job portraying So Fung Nei, whether its comedy and love. When she start to fall for Sunny was funny, she doesn't know what she was doing and doesn't believe that she like him. Haha.. Myolie did a great job and we never need to worry with Myolie's acting.

Cho Fan - Sunny Chan. I really find his character annoying and quite clueless and dumb. All he knows his to help others but sometime he doesn't get the same treatments back. But after awhile I grew to his character. He realize he started to like Myolie and stuff but it was too late. He didn't believe Myolie and Myolie left to the States with her mother and sister. The scenes with Sunny and Myolie bickering are funny. They kinda bicker through out the whole show. Haha, Sunny did an alright job as Cho Fat. He portrayed it well.

Cho Chi - Played by Ron. Ron character is kinda stubborn in the beginning and when he went back to the past his personality change. He learned a lesson and change himself. It was funny how he went around and guessing who is his mother. The part where he celebrate his birthday with Shirley was cute. He thought she was his mother xD silly boy. And he ended up liking her. He does have some funny scenes and some of his part were boring. But at the end how he and Shirley end up together was cute.

Ching Lan Fong - Played by Shirley. I don't really have much to say about her character but Shirley did portrayed her character well. We all can see that she is not lady like and really rough. It was because she was raise as an food stand girl. In the beginning when her mother (Gigi Wong) was like to her, I think I took the wrong baby home. I thought she was just saying that because Shirley's personality is so different from her mother. A nicer heart and everything. But when Nancy showed up and it was true that they might took the wrong baby by mistake and it was true. Even though they didn't finish telling us which baby is whom. I really pity Shirley. Her mother like Pin Pin (Nancy Wu) over her and it made to the point that Shirley end up leaving home. I know how Shirley felt, she felt that she doesn't belong there. (I know the feeling. Being Asian and Chinese, all traditional Chinese family hope for a boy. Well in my family I wouldn't say traditional but its all girls. I have two sisters, one older and one younger. As being Chinese and a girl and Being the Middle Child. You really don't get much attention. Cause the Older one do everything first and the younger one is the baby. There is no time for the middle child. Being the middle child is kinda unlucky -.-") But Shirley really did a great job portraying as Fong nui.

Those were the characters I want to talk about. The rest of the characters are all well portrayed and written. The ending wasn't the ending I expected to be. The whole time I was like to Ron, stop guessing, your mother is Myolie. But to my surprise he was adopted? They changed the script around, I wonder why they did that? Ron was really surprise too, that all these time he was finding his mom, and he found out that he was adopted. The little girl Po Po was cute, she did a great job acting, but I can see improvement in her. The scene where she and Shirley fighting for Ron was funny and the way Po Po thinks are amazing. She just a little kid but she can think like an adult. The separation of Po Po and her father was sad. I cried. Also the part when Carlo Ng realize he is wrong and kneel to beg to stay in the house was sad too, I cried along. He is lucky that all his wife married him for the money and they all left but only 2 wife stay true to him and follow him around. Carlo's character changed from the beginning to the end. The character that changed so much. Louis Yeun, did a great job too and quite funny. He is so nice to his daughter do everything she says. Hahaa, but he did kinda exaggerate his character a little and his expressions. The reunion of him and her daughter was lovely. Finally all those years, they are united. After the series was finish, I was really confuse. It is kinda confusing, cause they know that Ron will go back in time? So Sunny already knows Ron in the past? And like Shirley followed Ron to the future and already know who he is but didn't tell him cause he need to go to the past first? And there is two Ron?  A past Ron and a future Ron? Haha, many questions =P After I was done with the series, I kinda do miss it. Hahha.. not the series itself, but I miss the Cast. Cause I think I still don't know what I just watched =P

Recommend?
Umm.. I find the series alright, it wouldn't make you to chase for the next episode. It like a good comedy series to watch with family and over the dinner table. Its alright. I would say Yes and No.

(Non - TVB Related) You're Beautiful [Korean drama]

Title: You're Beautiful
Cast: Jang Geun Suk, Park Shin Hye, Lee Hong Ki, Jung Yong Hwa
Eps: 16
Broadcast: Korean SBS
Synopsis
A.N.JELL is popular idol group in Korea, the group initially consists of Hwang Tae Kyung (Jang Geun Suk), Kang Shin Woo (Jung Yong Hwa) and Jeremy (Lee Hong Ki). Tae Kyung is the leader of the group, as well as a composer, but his vocals are slightly lacking which prompted President Ahn (Jung Chan) to look for an additional member. President Ahn decided that Go Mi Nam (Park Shin Hye) would be the best candidate in entering the group.
Go Mi Nyu, Go Mi Nam's twin, is a sister-in-training. At the beginning of the drama she was about to travel to Rome to become a nun. However, she came across Manager Ma (Kim In Kwon) who tells her that her brother has been accepted by Korea's top group but has difficulty in going back to Korea as he is currently in the States undergoing surgery to correct his previous plastic surgery procedure. He pleads with her to fill in for her brother until he returns. Mi Nyu reluctantly promises remembering about her brother's dream to become an established singer in order to find their long-lost mother.
The rest of the drama displays the love triangles; Tae Kyun-Min Nyu-Shin Woo-Jeremy and Min Nyu-Tae Kyung-Yoo He Yi (UEE), along with Tae Kyung's impassive relationship with his mother, Mo Hwa Ran (Kim Sung Ryung), who was also a famous singer in the past. Who will Go Mi Nyu choose in the end? Will she be exposed for pretending to be a guy? Will she learn more about her mother?
Thoughts:

I know, I can't believe I'm saying this but, Korean Drama are better then TVB series. But TVB will always be in my heart =] I find You're Beautiful well written and portrayed. Well maybe there is some weird scenes and some part are cheesy. You're Beautiful is a story around younger adults, like between the age of late teens to early twenty. The story is revolve around a popular band called A.N.Jell. The group consist of three members, Hwang Tae Kyung (Jang Guen Suk), Kang Shin Woo(Jung Yong Hwa), and Jeremy (Lee Hong Kee). The President of the band wanted to add in a new member to the group and chose Go Min Nam. With Go Min Nam in the group, this changes everything.

Characters...

Go Min Nam - This character is played by Park Shin Hye. Shin Hye played two roles. The role she play is Go Min Nyu and Min Nam. Min Nam is Min Nyu’s twin brother, where he was selected to be part of the band (A.N.Jell), but sadly he had to go the States for a surgery. No one knows that Min Nam’s twin sister Min Nyu fill in as Min Nam except for her manager Ma Hoon Yi (Kim In Koon) and the Coordinater Wang (Choi Sun Eun). So Min Nyu played as Min Nam through out the whole drama. Park Shin Hye portrayed as Min Nam and Min Nyu very well. As the series progresses, Park Shin Hye’s character is really dumb. She doesn’t see things far from her. What she see are what is right infront of her. Min Nam is really clueless, doesn’t realized the reality around her. One clueless character.

Hwang Tae Kyung – Played by Jang Geun Suk. Is the leader of the Band, and aganist the idea of adding a new member in the group. Tae Kyung is a stubborn person and an OCD freak. Doesn’t like people in his buisness and touching him. But one thing, when he smiles and pouts, he is really cute xD. Tae Kyung found out that Min Nam is a girl and kept complaining that she is causing him trouble. But after awhile he starts to fall for Min Nam and doesn’t admit it. He finds ways to keep her by his side and making fun of her or yell at her. Min Nam is Tae Kyung’s Pig Rabbit xD an nickname he gave her.

Kang Shin Woo – Played by Jung Yong Hwa. The sensitive guy. He cares and take care of others. The second male lead in the drama. In the beginning he had already found out that Min Nam is a girl. He did many things to keep it a secret and help her from a far. He had watched over her to make sure she is not in trouble. Help her out without she noticing. A guy where all the girls dream to have. But Min Nam doesn’t know that Shin Woo knows she is a girl. So she didn’t notice him. Falling for Min Nam and trying many times to ask her out and telling her, he never got a chance. Cause every time he did that, Min Nam would always end up with Tae kyung. Shin Woo always got stand up and felt like he being dump every time even though they didn’t date. Poor Shin Woo. Every time seeing his sad face and emotions, my heart starts to ache.

Jeremy – Played by Lee Hong Ki. The funny guy in the drama. Everytime when you see him, you will always similes. And yet he is really Cute xD at first he thought that he was gay and Min Nam’s was gay too. Cause he start to like her. But after, when he found out that Min Nam was a girl, he was really happy and tell her stories, make her laugh and cheer her up. We (the audience) never knew that Jeremy loves Min Nam so much. Cause the scene where Jeremy cired on the bus, when he found out that Min Nam like Tae Kyung. Jeremy cired so much. The scene makes your heart ache and cry along. Yes i cried along with him. It was one sad scene. The Happy and always smiling Jeremy was crying. He did a job well done.

The Whole drama was funny. A good romance and Comedy drama. A drama that will make you chase for the next episode. That what happen to me. I chased for the next episode. The drama is a sweet romance, and has such great comedy. It’ll make you laugh and cry. Seeing everyone being heart broken, my heart hurts. The script are well written and the actors acted up to their peak.  The plot was well written, but the plot does go up and down. Some scenes I thought it was boring and doesn’t belong and some scenes are weird portrayed. But everything else was alright.

Recommend?
Yes, if you want to watch a good Korean Drama.

The Season of Fate

Before I start with this post, I'm going to say something. I recently finished with A Chip Off the Old Block and the review will be up soon. Also I had other stuff to say but I kinda forgot..so yea.

The Season of Fate thoughts so far..

I've started with TSOF this week and up to episode 19. I'm getting there =] I've got this week off from school so its a good week to relax. SOF is getting pretty interesting. At first when I read the synopsis, it didn't interest me. I just decide to watch this cause my old time fav actress Ester Kwan is back. So I watched it for her and I was kinda curious with the chemistry that will developed between Ester and Roger. But as the series goes, it got interesting. Well not interesting that got me hook on to it. I wouldn't say you have to watch the next episode right away. SOF is decent.

Here is some detail about the Characters..  (I'm going to add more and have my final thoughts on these characters when the full review is up)

Esther Kwan - I really pity her. She had to maintain the Kwan's Family and Hei Seung Fung for 10 years. Its really hard. Its really amazing how Seung Chun (Esther Kwan) can do this with out any complain. I pity and envy her at the same time. Even once a month when the moon is full, she'll experience the danger of getting killed by Yeuk Lam (Michelle Yim). Ester can go through that for then years with no complain and fear. She can easily loose her life like that every month. I really do envy her. I'm amaze how she can do that. If it was me, I'm out of here.

Roger Kwok - I find his character quite entertaining and funny. A little swindler getting people money. I also find him quite interesting too. He as this attitude which I like. And I'll get back to his detail when I have the full review up. I can't get any detail of him from my head right now.

Michelle Yim - Interesting little girl. At first I find her quite cute when she was mentally ill. Michelle definitely  did a great job portraying these type of characters. It was also some how funny and manageable to watch. But after she was healed, I started to have a different feel toward her. I didn't really like the Yeuk Lam that is heal. I like the mentally-ill Yeuk Lam better.

Ng Wai Kwok -  The quote "Never Judge the Book by its Cover" is always said. The appearance of Ng Wai Kwok made me thought he was a kind/gentle guy. But he is not an easy guy after all. Yam Fei Yeung knows everything and will find out about everything. So its better to get on his good side. Fei Yeung has a crush on Yeuk Lam for so many years and do everything for her. He knows that Yeuk Lam only have her heart on Dai Si Heng. So I have this feeling that the person who really put the poison on the food and the stuff Dai Si Heng did that made Yeuk Lam father found out and kick him out was probably planed by Fei Yeung. One wicked man.... I'll find out after I'm finish with the series.

Derek Kwok - At first I was like why is he walking and acting like that? And yep I found out as the series progresses. I pity him. He is an eunuch. One simple and caring guy. Only knows how to put others first and him last. He spend all his years helping Esther and had a crush on her for so many years. I really enjoyed watching him.

I'm going to leave it like this for now and going to complete it after I have the whole review up. Of course I'm going to add  more details and my final view on the characters I just put up. Stay tune and wait for my reviews on Season of Fate and A Chip off the Old Block ;]

Thoughts: I'll be looking forward in watching this. But I still have other series to catch up on -.- so I don't know when I'll be able to start. Maggie Cheung come back series in a small series. A Watchdog's Tale

Before I begin the review - what do you guys think about the new layout? Hehehe... I don't know myself.. I think its just ehh =\ It took me the whole day yesterday and half the day today. Every thing is in one of those navigation buttons... click around xD Well any ways back to the series...

Series: A Watchdog's Tale
Eps: 20
Broadcast line: TVB
Main Leads: Steven Ma, Linda Chung, Kent Cheng, Maggie Siu
Producer: Leung Choi Yuen

Thoughts:

I find this series quite relaxing and entertaining. The storyline is well written for a small series. The cast did a great job, no one acted over their peak. I have my pros and cons, aside from those.. all I'm saying is that I'm satisfied.

The series has its funny moment, cheesy moments, and sad moments. I enjoyed watching the story developing in the village. Everyone comes together and do everything together. Its a big family bond. The first two episodes does fill with many nonsense but as the series progresses it got better. Watchdog's Tale is a warm light-heart  series to watch. It fill you with many different feels. And  I didn't find the ending rush.. it was nicely wrapped up. Hmm, maybe they did rush the drug scene at the end, but it was nicely wrapped up though. The last couple episodes.. I burst out crying. The breakup between Linda and Steven was really touching... I was like "aww, they are breaking up" and my heart started to hurt and the next thing I knew tears came down. Also the part with Hor Wai and Steven, the mother-son relationship, how Steven going to leave. And with Ah Wong taking away by this guy. The last couple episodes really touched my heart. And of course it also feel with comedy xD

Relationship
Steven and Linda - Great couple, really enjoyed watching them. They started out yelling at each other, bickering couple. Linda acting in here was enjoyable and watchable. Its nothing huge and its average. Steven is always up there doing his thing. His acting really well improved and superb. Slowly Steven start to have feelings towards Linda. He start to sweet talk with her and doesn't argue anymore. Enough said, Steveda makes a lovely couple with a lot of sweet chemistry between them.

Linda and Kent - Their father -daughter relationship was enjoyable. Kent acting is amazing. His role is a very calm person. Either searching for clues or doing anything, he does it in a calm way. He has a funny role and always making me laugh. The part where he was looking at the photo book on Linda was quite sad. Their relationship is a huge bond, never letting each other down. They are always together. But Kent realize its time to let Linda go as she is growing up and getting marry. Great chemistry between them.

Steven and Hor Wai - Mother and Son relationship is enjoyable too. Hor Wai is one dedicated 24/7 mother to Steven. The last part when Steven found his biological mother and was going to go to America with her was sad. Hor Wai tried to do everything to forget about Steven and pretend that she can let him go. But deep inside she can't let go of Steven. Even though Steven is not his biological son but had taken care of him for so many years, there is still chemistry in between. Steven is a filial son and did every thing for her. Steven knowing that he can't forget Hor Wai and decided to stay with her instead of moving to America. They have a strong chemistry.

Other Characters are all well formed. Kwok Fung once again lighten me and made me laugh after watching his comedy role in D.I.E Again. His Role in Watchdogs has almost the same comedy, which will make you laugh. Natalie and Raymond W. I didn't really feel anything between them, but they do look cute together. Maggie Siu annoyed me in the beginning, but I learned to grow on to her as the story goes. Its quite funny to watch her actually.. once again Maggie Siu show the screen her great skills. Koni Lui do have potential to lead one day, I have faith in her.

Enough said, the story was overall satisfying and its a great light-heart comedy to watch. There is nothing crazy and the bond between each actors are amazing. I would like to watch another Kent/Linda/ Steven Series. Also the Steveda daughter is really cute =D

Recommend?
Well if you have nothing to watch and want to watch a light heart series, go ahead. I'll recommend it.
Rating - 4/5
It's not awesome and amazing, but its good and satisfying. Still need some work.

Artist of the Month

Artist of the Month goes to....

Kenneth Ma, Ma Kwok Ming!!

Kenneth Ma born on February 13 1974 is a graduate of TVB's 14th Acting Class in 1999. Is today's TVB Siu Sang. Graduating from Delia International School and Douglas College in Vancouver and University of British Columbia. Majoring in Mechanical Engineering. After his studies, Kenneth went back to Hong Kong and enter TVB's 14th acting class. After his class in 1999, Kenneth started to appear in cameo roles and supporting. But after awhile TVB had started to promote Kenneth and started to have more supporting roles. In 2006 TVB's 39th anniversary, Kenneth received his first award. Getting an award for "Most Improvement Actor". His popularity and promotion shot up. TVB gave Kenneth his first leading role in 2007 for the series Survival Laws II. With that series, it had lead Kenneth popularity to shoot up again. Receiving a 31 peak rating in the 2nd half of its broadcast. In Kenneth 10 years in TVB, he had filmed over 60 series. Ever since leading in Survival Law II.. Kenneth started to lead in many other series.

Kenneth is a really hardworking guy. Quiet and tried his best. Even on his off days, Kenneth would go to the studio and watch others film. He would watch other film to learn more from them. Kenneth never stop working.. he tried and keep on trying. With all the effort and hard work he put in, it lead to where Kenneth is today as TVB's Fa Dan and leading in series. Kenneth receives many praises from everyone around him. They all praise him as hardworking, clever, and a good boy. Kenneth is filial to his mother, and everyone who is older than him. Final said, Kenneth is a hardworking and a great boy.

Improvements every time I see him on TV. Kenneth had filmed many series that I had watch when I was younger. But I didn't notice him until Lost in the Chamber of Love. Well I did have a small notice in The Triumph in the Sky, but in Chamber its when he starts to shine out to me. Also after seeing him leading in Into the Thin Air along side with Michael Miu, Melissa Ng, and Bernice Liu. With an amazing chemistry with Bernice that is when he captures my heart. Kenneth really improves every time. Kenneth has really great chemistry with everyone. His acting is really natural and he is very special. That what make us all love Ma Ming. Kenneth brings great attitudes to work and is very diligent. Place in top 5 for TVB Awards the past 3 years and was surprisingly the only male from Born Rich to be nominated in to the top 5 at 2009 awards. That means that he did a great job in Born Rich ;] Ma Ming had sung some theme songs and its just shooting up each time. Kenneth also has an awesome characteristics and humor. Everyone around him loves him and have many friends in the entertainment circle. With his new series Mystery of Love coming out, I'll definitely support Kenneth all the way. And can't wait for his chemistry with Bernice again =]

Winter Love

Hehehe.. In school today I saw my reports for all my classes except for Chemistry. Cause the teachers isn't done grading them and hope there will be a curve.. we all need it. With many hours of studying for the tedious midterm exams everything pays off. There were two grads I'm not happy about cause I felt confident... I didn't get the grade I wanted to get but its still good. For the others I'm happy about it =] Put effort into studying and the result will be happy. Studying pays off everything. I don't really want to see my Chemistry grade though =\

After starting on the fanfic Starry Starry Night [ft. Linda Chung, Raymond Lam, Tavia Yeung, Ron Ng, Bernice Liu and Moses Chan.] And finally finished it in a year.. cause I let the story drag for so long. Starry Starry Night started in 2007 and finished in the summer of 2008. After the fanfic was finish, I started on a new fanfic Sunrise Secret.
